Lime and Israeli NGO One in Nine team up for Breast Cancer Awareness Month 2020
The power of pink is everywhere this October as we observe Breast Cancer Awareness Month. While we wear our pink to raise awareness for breast cancer, we’re also reflecting on how we can lend support to those who need it most. As breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths among women, Lime hopes to draw further attention to the disease and will help raise funds for breast cancer research.
One way we’re getting involved is through our ongoing partnership with One in Nine, one of Israel’s largest NGOs. This October, riders in Israel will find hang tags with pink ribbons attached to the scooters. The QR code on the hang tags, which riders can scan just like they do to start a ride, will direct them to a landing page where they can donate to One in Nine, and support women fighting breast cancer. Starting October 11th and running through the end of the month, Lime riders will be prompted with a message to “unlock a Lime and get tested.”
Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer women face around the world, impacting one in nine women. Progress in treatment and early detection has improved the chance of survival for women of all ages, races, and with all stages of breast cancer. Since breast cancer often has no symptoms, regular breast cancer screenings are a vital form of detection. Mammograms can help doctors detect cancer in the early stages, when treatment is most successful.
Later this month, Lime will host a series of health empowerment workshops for its female employees. The workshop will be run by a professional facilitator and allow participants to discuss their concerns, address myths around the disease, talk about various risk factors, needed testing, and the ideal lifestyle that encourages women to be proactive and get tested.
