Lime joins World Economic Forum’s ‘Mission Possible Partnership’ commitment to zero emissions international shipping

On our path to net zero emissions, we continually look throughout the business to find ways to cut our carbon impacts wherever we can. We’ve found a new one: zero emissions trucking.

When we think about the entire process of getting a new e-scooter or e-bike to one of the more than 280 markets we serve, we have to think about the upstream logistics impacts of that journey– and eventually fully decarbonizing it.

We’re pleased to announce a new partnership with California trucking company Hight Logistics, which will use electric trucks to provide zero emissions port transportation for hauling Lime’s vehicles and parts to our logistics hubs. Forum Mobility, a leading zero-emission electric truck and charging company, is providing the electric trucks and charging to Hight Logistics.

Beyond our efforts to cut the impacts of our ground shipping, Lime has just joined the Mission Possible Partnership led by the World Economic Forum. Under Lime’s commitment, 10% of the volume of our goods shipped internationally will be on ships using zero-emission fuels by 2030 on the way to 100% of shipments by 2040 (and we expect it will be much faster than that!). Our hope is that as owners of cargo we can in turn drive the investment and innovation to decarbonize the entire logistics sector.

In 2022, 16% of Lime’s total carbon emissions came from upstream transportation. Our goal is to bring that to zero. Our entire business at Lime focused on providing sustainable transportation solutions – and we want to be on the vanguard of zero emission freight as well. This effort perfectly aligns with our mission of seeing a future of transportation which is entirely carbon free. And this is our way of taking a critical step of decarbonizing our entire supply chain.

Hight Logistics will begin transporting Lime’s shipments from Los Angeles, California ports to logistics hubs in the region in the next several weeks.

In the last two years, Lime utilized more than 700 truckloads of freight through the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach as it scaled its business and updated its e-scooter and e-bike fleet across North America. As part of the partnership, future shipments will be completed via zero-emissions vehicles. Lime will continue to explore similar agreements globally, in particular with its European shipping hub.

“As a Lime rider myself, I couldn’t be more thrilled to support Lime’s net zero ambitions. Our investment in electric trucks now enables us to deliver goods for cargo owners like Lime who care about lowering their logistics emissions,” said Rudy Diaz, CEO of Hight Logistics.

“The shift to zero emission freight is a generational change, and we are pleased to support these leadership companies on the vanguard of the transition. Hight and Lime are stepping forward into the future, and making history,” said Matt LeDucq, CEO and co-founder of Forum Mobility, provides solutions to carriers and is developing a network of charging depots in and around ports and on common freight routes.

“We’re thrilled to play a leading part in the EV freight transition through this exciting partnership with Hight Logistics and Forum Mobility,” said Andrew Savage, VP for Sustainability at Lime. ”EV shipping needs demand signals to really get moving, and given our ambitious climate goals, Lime is happy to provide them. Businesses need to prioritize zero-emission hauling and take their Scope 3 emissions seriously, regardless of the new SEC rule that omitted reporting on these massive emissions. We believe firmly in a carbon-free future and we’re taking these important steps to decarbonize our shipping logistics on our path to achieving our ambitious net zero carbon goals.”
