With 30,000 Trips in Two Months, Lime E‑Bikes Gain Momentum in Oxford
A successful launch
In November 2024, Lime, the world's largest provider of shared e-bikes and e-scooters, celebrated a significant milestone in Oxford. Since launching in September with a fleet of 100 e-bikes, the service has completed over 30,000 trips, showcasing strong community adoption.
Momentum from the start
Within the first 10 days, Lime's e-bikes recorded over 3,000 trips, indicating high demand and potential for growth. This success arrives in a city already primed for cycling, with 35% of Oxford residents cycling at least once a week.
Commitment to community
Lime has committed to following Oxfordshire County Council's Code of Conduct for Dockless Bike Sharing. This agreement supports the city's goals of promoting green travel and reducing traffic congestion. The council has even created a dedicated webpage to help residents understand and use the new e-bike service.
Cllr Andrew Gant, Oxfordshire County Council's Cabinet Member for Transport Management, emphasised the significance of the service:
"Active travel opportunities are very important for Oxford. Public hire e-bikes provide more options to move around the city in a more environmentally responsible and sustainable way.”
Fiona Duenyas, Lime's Public Affairs Manager, shared her excitement about the launch:
"We are delighted to see such a positive reception to our e-bikes in Oxford - a city that shares our commitment to active and sustainable transport. Oxford residents have long embraced cycling as a preferred mode of transport, and we're thrilled that our e-bikes are being integrated into the community as a popular way to get around. Working with Oxfordshire County Council, we will continue to support the city's green goals and help prevent unnecessary car journeys."

A strategic expansion
Lime's Oxford launch is part of a broader UK expansion strategy. Following their successful introduction in Nottingham in 2023, the company continues to enhance urban connectivity and reduce car dependency by providing eco-friendly transportation alternatives.
The Oxford launch demonstrates how innovative, sustainable transportation solutions can be warmly embraced by forward-thinking communities, offering a glimpse into the future of urban mobility.
