LimeBike Celebrates 1,000,000th Ride With European Expansion

Hold on to your schnitzel: LimeBike is about to go international.

For the first time ever, the US leader in dockless bike sharing is headed across the Atlantic to launch programs in Frankfurt, Germany and Zurich, Switzerland. The move caps an exciting first year of growth and development, helping us further our promise of delivering sustainable, affordable transportation to as many communities as possible.

It’s also a fitting throwback to Karl von Drais’ original two-wheeled velocipede, which premiered in Europe 200 years ago next month.

With 500 bikes set to be made available in each of the two cities throughout the month of December, and more to be added in 2018, we’ll be welcoming our first European riders to the LimeBike family just in time for the holidays. Plus, at a cost of just 1 CHF / EUR per 30-minute ride, there’s no need to shorten your shopping list!

News of our upcoming European launch comes on the heels of another milestone in LimeBike history: our 1-millionth ride! As of Sunday, December 10th, our community has officially shared more than a million cycling memories with us - from Puget Sound to Biscayne Bay. Peak ridership is also at an all-time high, now clocking in at over 10,000 LimeBikers per day in more than 30 US markets.

We’re so excited about this response to our dockless bike sharing service that we’ve decided to double down on our commitment to the urban mobility revolution. Well, quintuple down is more like it.

From now until December 31st, LimeBike will be growing our fleet size nationwide from 10,000 to 50,000 bikes. Of course, to help strategically manage and maintain the increase in cycling hardware, we’ll be expanding our field ops teams as well - meaning lots of new local job opportunities throughout the country. We’ll also be rolling out new in-app features to help incentivize good riding behavior and alleviate parking issues, so be on the lookout!

As always, we owe every bit of our growth and success to you, our community. Thank you so much for your continued feedback and support, and for holding us to the kind of high standards your cities and neighborhoods deserve. We're looking forward to the next million rides, and to welcoming more new faces on both sides of the Atlantic!
