Why It’s Important That Lime Signed The We Are Still In Pledge

2019 is shaping up to be the greenest year yet for Lime.In January, not only did we announce carbon-free operations in France as part of our Lime Green initiative, but we officially joined the We Are Still In movement.

To provide some context, the 2015 Paris Agreement was a landmark international achievement: the first binding pact between nations to curb emissions and invest in new sustainable technologies. While critics argue it doesn’t go far enough in addressing the problems facing our planet, it’s currently the best international accord we have in the fight against climate change.

Two years later, however, the US opted to reverse course and withdraw from the agreement.

In response, governors, mayors, CEOs and hundreds of other leaders across the country took a stand to ensure that the United States’ commitment to stay in the agreement would be honored. By signing the We Are Still In pledge, Lime proudly joins with other forward-thinking individuals and organizations in agreeing to adhere to the goals set in the Paris Agreement.

The pledge was a significant part of December’s COP 24, the world’s largest annual climate conference that took place in Katowice, Poland. It was my third year attending COP on behalf of the non-profit Care About Climate, an environmental communications and youth leadership incubator I co-founded.

With my career launching markets at Lime, I take pride in aligning my passion for environmental work with my professional drive to create processes that help people sustainably move around their communities and have an alternative to cars. To solve climate change, we must come together as a global community to hear each other, to see each other and to work with each other to create the framework and infrastructure necessary to save our world.

For me, that starts with something as simple as a scooter and a bike. We can be present in our communities instead of inside a car, able to interact with and witness what’s going on around us. This experience enables us to be part of the urban ecosystem instead of just a tourist passing through.
