Lime And LAPD Kick Off Inaugural First Ride Academy In Los Angeles

Scooter safety took center stage in Los Angeles last weekend as Lime and the LAPD paired up to host the city’s inaugural First Ride Academy.
Held at Melrose Trading Post in Fairfax, attendees were given the opportunity to learn all about Lime, safe riding practices and local laws pertaining to electric scooter use. They then tested their skills on a closed training course before heading out for a group ride alongside a police bike escort.
“The LAPD is focused on educating the public about how to safely operate and park scooters in our City, and the various rules and regulations that are in place to keep riders, drivers and pedestrians safe,” said LAPD Sergeant A.J. Kirby.
“We have seen Lime’s commitment to safe riding and parking, and we’re pleased to have them partner in our efforts and join us today for our Bike with a Cop event.”
Upon completing the 30-minute training course, all riders were given a free helmet along with a voucher for a free coffee and pastry from Melrose’s own Agency Coffee Co.
Sunday’s First Ride Academy was the first of several such educational events scheduled to take place throughout the city this summer.
“Lime is committed to keeping mobility in our communities safe and accessible,” said Karla Owunwanne, Lime’s Community Affairs Manager in Los Angeles. “As electric scooters play an increasingly important role in LA’s evolving transportation network, safety events like our First Ride Academy help to ensure that we’re educating our riders every step of the way.”
Los Angeles has long been at the center of the US electric scooter revolution. In April, the city became the first in the country to pass 3 million e-scooter rides.
