Lime Electric Scooters Roll Into Greater Boston

The city of Boston got one step closer to the arrival of dock free micromobility today with the launch of one hundred Lime electric scooters in neighboring Brookline, MA.

The rollout kicked off this morning with a Town Hall group ride, and will continue throughout the week leading up to a fun and informative rider event on Saturday, April 6 from 10am-4pm.

Part of the Greater Boston metro region, Brookline’s 8-month micromobility pilot is the first of its kind in Massachusetts. It will likely play an integral role in changing dated legislation that currently prohibits electric scooters from operating in the state.

“Brookline is proud to be the first town or city in Massachusetts to offer a shared scooter system,” said Todd Kirrane, Brookline Transportation Administrator. “Scooters are an important part of a sustainable and reliable transportation network that the Greater Boston area desperately needs."

Just last week, Boston’s city council voted unanimously to create new guidelines for electric scooters -- a clear indication that the city is closely watching the Brookline pilot and taking steps to facilitate a micromobility launch of its own.

Brookline sits on the border of several historic Boston neighborhoods including Fenway-Kenmore, and is home to a population of roughly 60,000 residents.

“Lime has been working in tandem with the Brookline Select Board, which has taken the lead in Massachusetts to provide these new micro-mobility options,” said Scott Mullen, Lime Director for Northeast Expansion. “Residents in our MAPC service zone are already using shared bikes from Lime’s fleet, proving that our mobility solution is the right fit, right now for the Bay State.”
