Lime Takes Security Measures In The German Carnival Strongholds

Throughout the height of the German carnival season, Lime takes extra measures to ensure the safety of riders. Temporarily restricted zones will be established around the regular carnival party areas in the strongholds of Cologne, Düsseldorf, Mainz, Wiesbaden and Bonn, from which a differentiated driving and parking ban for e-scooters will apply. Lime will continue to work in close collaboration with the respective cities to identify the restricted zones and the concrete measures to adopt.

"We are intensifying our efforts to ensure that our e-scooters can be used safely in Cologne, Düsseldorf, Mainz, Wiesbaden, and Bonn during the carnival," said Alexander Pfeil, General Manager at Lime Germany. “Nevertheless, one thing must be clear to everyone: e-scooters are not toys and drunk riding is not only dangerous but also illegal. Our top priority is the safety of our riders and non-riders. We have a zero tolerance policy towards users who ride our e-scooters under the influence of alcohol.”

Lime riders will receive an in-app message twice a day during Carnival reminding them to be cautious and not to ride e-scooters under the influence of alcohol. To start a journey, the rider will have to confirm the ability to ride safely. Riders will receive 2 promo codes for free unlocks if they answer all questions correctly to a “Don’t drink. But Ride” quiz. In addition, the in-app tutorial will now clearly indicate the most important traffic rules and additional safety tips.

During the carnival season, all e-scooters will be outfitted with hangtags reminding riders to not drink, but ride. Lime will continue to inform riders about applicable rules and risks on its landing page, in app and on social media. In order to ensure the correct parking and use of e-scooters, Lime was the first provider to establish ‘Lime Foot Patrols’. These teams will continue to be on the road every day during the rush hour in the busiest areas, to inform users about the rules of driving with the e-scooter and, if necessary, park them.
