Lime joins America Walks to rethink how we move

Imagine your week without a car—more walking, more biking, more fresh air.

That’s the spirit of Week Without Driving, a national campaign by America Walks that took place September 29–October 5, 2025. This year, Lime joined as the title sponsor, helping people across the country explore new ways to move that are better for their cities and the planet.

According to America Walks, nearly one in three Americans can’t drive, whether because of age, disability or access. In many places, that can mean missing out on jobs, housing and essential services. Week Without Driving flips that reality, inviting everyone to experience their communities from a new perspective and imagine what truly accessible, car-optional cities could look like.

Meet America Walks

Founded to make walking safer and more accessible, America Walks is a national nonprofit organization that promotes walkability through education, policy and awareness campaigns. The group equips local leaders and residents with tools to create communities that work better for people of all ages and abilities—not just those behind the wheel.

Through initiatives like Week Without Driving, America Walks invites everyone to imagine a more inclusive transportation future, one where walking, biking and shared micromobility are safe and realistic options for daily life.

Rolling out change, together

“Encouraging people to get out of their cars is core to our mission of building a future where transportation is shared, affordable and carbon-free. We’re proud to partner with America Walks to inspire leaders around the country to ditch their cars for the week, encouraging them to #LimeInstead.” — Emily Gibbs, Director of Social Impact at Lime

Through our partnership with America Walks, Lime helped bring Week Without Driving to life nationwide, supporting local events, amplifying community voices and celebrating everyday riders. From D.C. to Seattle to Nashville, we joined thousands of people rethinking what transportation can look like when cities are designed for people, not just cars.

Hitting the streets

Across the country, Lime teams hit the ground rolling to turn Week Without Driving into action.

In Washington, D.C., community leaders and advocates joined a group ride hosted by Greater Greater Washington. Also in attendance were Advisory Neighborhood Commissioners from Georgetown and Congress Heights, as well as representatives from the DC Office of Disability Rights and the Department of For-Hire Vehicles. Before setting off, participants discussed how micromobility can fill critical gaps in urban transit.

“The Week Without Driving isn’t just a challenge, it’s a national demonstration showing where our car-centric systems fail millions of Americans. Shared micromobility is part of the solution.” — Nana Agyemang, Lime’s Community Engagement Manager.

The D.C. ride-along provided first-time Lime riders with a firsthand look at both the joys and realities of biking in the city. These insights are already inspiring ideas for future collaborations.

In Seattle, Lime partnered with Seattle Neighborhood Greenways for a community ride through newly reopened bike lanes from the Chinatown-International District into SODO. Riders used Lime vehicles, as well as their own bikes, to explore accessible routes and identify areas where more infrastructure is still needed to make biking and scooting safer for everyone.

In Nashville, Councilmember Erica Gilmore joined Lime for a ride-along that brought together local residents, advocates and media to highlight how shared micromobility can help create more connected neighborhoods.

By taking to the streets, these events brought Week Without Driving to life—transforming online conversations into real-world experiences and sparking dialogue about what safer, more inclusive city travel could look like.

A greener road ahead

Week Without Driving is about imagining what’s possible when sustainable transportation becomes the easiest choice for everyone. Every ride on a Lime helps reduce congestion, cut emissions and create cities that move better for people, not just cars.
