Studies show that lack of access to a car prevents people from being able to cast their ballot in both general and primary elections.

Not having access to transportation to and from the polls perpetuates inequities in political engagement by race and educational attainment. That’s where Lime to the Polls comes in.

Taking place in over 25 cities across the US, Lime to the Polls not only reminds voters about local elections, but helps them plan their vote via free rides to and from their polling place.

“Lime To The Polls is not just a critical program for cities across the US, it is an impactful way to remind our riders that local, off-cycle elections are just as important as major national elections, and we are especially proud to offer it for local elections throughout the early voting period,” said Emily Gibbs, Senior Manager of Social Impact at Lime. “Not all our riders have time to vote on Election Day, so we've continued to expand our program to serve more riders and voters. We know our riders rely on us to get them where they need to go, and we're proud to become an integral part of the voting experience.”

For multiple election cycles, we have provided riders with 76,000 free rides to and from polling places to encourage voter participation in elections at every level of government and to ensure access to transportation is never a barrier to exercising this important right.

We partnered with national voting organizations When We All Vote and Vote Early Day to provide an array of voting access and educational tools.

When We All Vote is a leading national, nonpartisan initiative on a mission to change the culture around voting and to increase participation in each and every election by helping to close the race and age gap.

"There are no 'off years' when it comes to voting. This fall, millions of Americans have state and local elections happening that will determine the futures of their communities,” said Laura Miller, Interim Executive Director of When We All Vote. “Every election season, voters face barriers to cast their ballots — transportation should not be one of them. That's why When We All Vote is proud to partner with Lime to provide voters with free rides to the polls, and also ensure they have the information and resources they need to make a plan to vote."

Vote Early Day is a nonpartisan movement of media companies, businesses, nonprofits, election administrators, and creatives working to ensure all Americans have the tools to vote early.

"Lime plays a pivotal role in helping Americans vote early. Getting to an early voting location or polling place can be challenging. By offering free rides to vote, Lime is removing hurdles for Americans who want to have their say in our democracy," said Bryce Bennett, Executive Director of Vote Early Day. "Thousands of Vote Early Day partners and millions more voters are deeply fortunate to have Lime's leadership in empowering voters to cast their ballot this fall."
