Lime Keeps Focus On Safety With Former CIA Hire, First Ride Milestone

Lime has announced today the addition of Nick Shapiro as Global Head of Trust and Safety, the latest in a growing series of initiatives that reflect the company’s commitment to responsibility and rider safety.

Former Deputy Chief of Staff at the CIA and a senior counterterrorism and homeland security aide to President Obama, Nick has a long history of building and maintaining trust in both the public and private sectors. He most recently served as Global Head of Crisis Management at Airbnb.

In his new role as Lime’s first Head of Trust and Safety, Nick will be instrumental in ensuring that the prolific growth of micromobility around the world is done responsibly and with the security and wellbeing of riders as the number one priority.

“We know that micromobility can only be successful if riders and communities feel safe, and at Lime, we’re dedicated to advancing safety for all,” said CEO and co-founder Brad Bao. “With his extensive experience in the White House, the CIA, at Airbnb and more, I can think of no better person to champion that commitment to safety than Nick.”

The announcement comes amid a year of exciting developments in micromobility safety. In January, Lime’s Gen 3 electric scooter was awarded “Best Rideable Technology” at the renowned CES conference in Las Vegas for features such as its 10” wheels and mountain-bike inspired suspension. The company also hosted an industry-first Education and Safety Summit in July, gathering policymakers, academics, law enforcement personnel and community leaders together to discuss the future of safe, multimodal streets.

A similar working session is set to take place next week in Berlin.

More recently, Lime celebrated its 100th global First Ride safety event last week. The 60-minute sessions, popularized in Paris, offer free training, guided rides and helmets to attendees in order to help raise awareness of responsible riding and parking practices. To date, more than 40 cities and thousands of new micromobility users have participated in Lime First Ride safety events from Los Angeles to Tel Aviv.
