Latin America is once again taking a leading role in the development of micromobility.

After celebrating more than 1 million total rides in Mexico City and Santiago de Chile, the team at Lime has been working together with local officials to help bring dockless electric scooters to Bogotá, Colombia and Montevideo, Uruguay this week.

The two South American capitals are home to a combined population of nearly 10,000,000 people.

LIME LAUNCHES IN BOGOTÁ

Lime electric scooters arrive on the streets of the Colombian capital this Thursday, April 25th, one month after the country’s inaugural launch in neighboring Cali.

“We’re excited to introduce Bogotans to a new, accessible and sustainable way to get around the city,” said Enrique Cuellar, Lime’s General Manager in Colombia. “Lime has already seen a strong connection between our electric scooters and public transit in other Latin American capitals like Mexico City, and we’re ready to help create solutions to local transportation challenges here in Bogotá as well.”

That’s good news for a city that’s home to some of the worst traffic congestion in the world. According to INRIX,Bogotá drivers spent an average of 272 hours stuck in traffic in 2018. Lime’s launch in the city brings with it the potential to significantly curb congestion and harmful CO2 emissions.

LIME LAUNCHES IN MONTEVIDEO

Hundreds of Lime electric scooters will take to the streets of Montevideo, Uruguay this Friday, April 26th. It’s the first time Lime has launched in the South American nation, and the fourth country in Latin America to host Lime-S.

“It’s truly a milestone to be bringing our micromobility solutions to Uruguay,” said Lime’s LATAM General Manager Cameron Swanson. “Montevideo is a beautiful city to explore on an electric scooter, and we’re thrilled to help more residents and visitors avoid cars in order to navigate the capital on two wheels.”

According to a recent survey, nearly 30% of Lime riders in the Chilean capital of Santiago reported using an electric scooter to replace a trip by car during their last ride.

CONTINUED GROWTH IN LATIN AMERICA
