Just over one year ago, Lime launched our first Bay Area market in South San Francisco. Then came Alameda. Then Burlingame. Then Oakland.

The commitment to serve the entirety of our hometown community reached an exciting milestone last month, even in the face of a continued shutdown of our electric scooter program in the City of San Francisco.

The Bay Area has officially hit one million dock-free bike and scooter rides.

In fact, as of today that total is over 1,250,000. This equates to more than 1.1 million pounds of CO2 being removed from the air that our family, friends and neighbors breathe every day.

These numbers are a source of immense pride for all of us, and they would not have been possible without Lime’s dedicated team of operations specialists and Juicers. Their hard work is a reflection of our commitment to investing in local communities and improving equitable access to first and last-mile transportation.

An important part of that equity means that, in addition to our Lime Access program and the deployment of our fleet in underserved communities, we make it a point to partner with and hire from local Bay Area organizations.

Since day one, Lime has been working hand in hand with the Center for Economic Opportunities (CEO), a group that seeks to reduce the recidivism rates of formerly-incarcerated individuals. The team members we’ve hired from CEO in Oakland and San Jose have thrived at Lime - an organization dedicated to bringing accessible, affordable transportation to their neighborhoods.

One such employee in San Jose recently accepted a role on the management team as Lead Mechanic. His personal story of using Lime to get to and from both work and his CEO development classes is a powerful testament to the need for smart mobility services and the positive impact they’re already having on individuals across the region.

As we push towards our next million rides, the entire team at Lime is looking forward to expanding these kinds of employment opportunities and building greater transportation equity throughout the communities in which so many of us live and work; including, perhaps once again, our home city of San Francisco.
