Lime rolls out app-less riding to cities around the world
You can now rent a Lime scooter without downloading or even opening the Lime app
At Lime, we’re focused on how to make it as easy as possible to hop on a scooter and go.
Everyone has experienced that awful moment--you want to do something that requires an app download, but your phone is taking forever, or worse, you get the dreaded:
Now, riders in cities around the world can take a Lime scooter without having to open, or even download the full app.
We’re thrilled to announce that starting today Lime riders will be able to walk up to a scooter and start riding, regardless of whether they have our app on their phone. This new feature is a first for the shared micromobility industry and provides the most seamless experience for Lime riders to date.
The flow is simple. Through Apple’s App Clips and Android’s Instant App features, riders can approach a scooter, scan the scooter’s QR code with their phone’s camera, open the app clip to confirm the ride and use Apple Pay or Google Pay to start a ride without ever opening the Lime app.
"This new feature makes Lime more accessible to riders, including those who are new to our platform and haven’t downloaded our app yet,” said Zach Kahn, Senior Product Manager at Lime. “With app-less riding, new riders can try out our service without the process of downloading our app, and regular riders can cut out several steps to quickly start a ride. We know our riders are on the go and we want to get them on their way as seamlessly as possible."
Lime’s app-less service is now available using iOS App Clips and Google Play Instant Apps. Happy riding!
