“You meet more people when you Lime,” said Bronxite Matt Burcaw.

It’s a common refrain we hear in cities we serve with safe, sustainable alternatives to cars. At Lime, we are focused on creating people-first cities and that starts with connecting with the communities we serve.

On a cool, autumn day in the Bronx, we had the pleasure of gathering residents to learn, ride and make new connections. Lime and Bronx Narratives, a local publication run by Bronxites telling stories and documenting their borough, teamed up to host our first Bronx Community Ride.

“We partnered with Bronx Narratives because we want to build deep, meaningful relationships with the neighborhoods we serve. When Lime launches in a new city, we don’t just drop our scooters on the ground, we seek to meet people where they are and get to know the community,” said Russell Murphy, Senior Director of Communications at Lime.

“The Lime experience has been one of a kind. This partnership speaks volumes to the kind of activations Bronx Narratives curate. We pride ourselves on community build all whilst having fun and we did just that as we rode through our North Bronx community,” said Dondre Green, founder of Bronx Narratives.

Residents eager to test our new Gen 4 scooters were invited to meet up at Coffee Bay Restaurant, a local Black-owned business, for safety training and to get a comfortable feel for traveling with the new electric vehicle option. Bern Helmets, which offers discounts to Lime riders, provided a selection of their best-selling helmets to ensure all riders were protected where it matters most. Once guests were confident and ready to take off, we took them on a ride to experience a new way of getting around the Bronx. With the wind in their hair, the breeze on their skin, and the comfort of riding along with a group to provide safety in numbers—this marked the beginning of a new routine for many Bronxites.

“I was afraid to ride scooters by myself so I’m glad I came out to this event. It was awesome and I had a great time, I’d ride again,” said Alyssa Powell.

Lime and Bronx Narratives also took the opportunity to highlight another local Bronx business, as we ended our ride at Gun Hill Brewery to hang out and connect with riders, entrepreneurs, artists, and the people who make the Bronx unique.

Supporting community-based businesses is a key component to Lime’s work in cities across the world. Studies have shown micromobility is a tremendous benefit to local businesses, with close to $1,000 in incremental value for every operational scooter.
