Ride Green with Lime

Transportation is the world’s largest source of climate disrupting greenhouse gas emissions, contributing approximately 25% of global CO2. To address climate change, and make cities healthier and more livable, we need to revolutionize urban transportation toward a shared, electric, and carbon free future. Electric shared micromobility can be among the most sustainable modes in the world, with the potential to replace all car trips under 5 miles. That’s our goal.

The Green Option

A trip with Lime uses 75% less carbon than a comparable car trip, and since every vehicle is powered by renewable energy, choosing Lime over cars is always the right choice.

Our Commitments

Industry Leading Carbon Targets

Lime is the first company to set a science-based carbon target, in line with the Paris Climate Accords, through one of the leading corporate target setting organizations in the world, the Science-based Targets Initiative. We're following the science to reduce the carbon footprint of our service and reach net zero by 2030.

A Proven Car Alternative

Our riders have taken an industry-leading 300 million trips, helping to replace an estimated 75 million car trips, and avoid an estimated 30,000 metric tons of CO2 emissions.

Reducing our Environmental Impact

To understand our impact and opportunities for improvement, we have completed two independent, ISO-compliant life cycle analyses. The results show us that extending scooter lifetime, increasing parts reuse from decommissioned scooters, and using zero emissions fleet vehicles are the biggest areas for making environmental gains.

Designing for Sustainability

We're proudly one of the only shared electric vehicle companies to design our e-bikes and e-scooters in-house. This means we can build for longevity with higher quality, modular parts and swappable, interchangeable batteries. It results in vehicles expected to last over five years.

Zero Emissions Operation Fleet

We are transitioning our operations globally to zero-emission vehicles, including electric vans and cargo bikes. We’ll be fully electric across Europe in 2022 and will aggressively phase out our existing leased vehicles by 2023 across the rest of the world. The result is a more sustainable service for our riders and the cities we serve.

100% Renewable Energy

Lime was the first shared electric vehicle company to power all of our e-bikes, e-scooters, warehouses and offices on renewable energy. We also work with partners in cities across the globe to use locally-sourced renewable energy, helping to further the adoption of renewables beyond our industry as well.

Lime & WWF

The world’s leading conservation and climate advocacy organization and largest micromobility provider are joining forces for healthier cities in the fight against climate change. Our global initiative includes education to promote cleaner modes of transportation and grassroots advocacy to advance more sustainable urban mobility. WWF is the global leader in conservation and climate advocacy and is a member of the Science Based Targets Initiative, alongside the World Resources Institute and the UN Global Compact.

Timeline

Our Goals

2020
100% Renewable

We use 100% renewable energy for charging all Lime e-bikes and scooters, and powering offices and warehouses. Our commitment includes expanding the locally sourced energy we use in the markets we serve. We are also aggressively transitioning to clean, electric operations vehicles for managing our fleet.

2025
Carbon Negative

We will be net carbon negative for the company, service and entire value chain (Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions) with the majority of our emissions reduced or neutralized by 2025 aligned with our commitment to a science-based target and the stringent SBTi requirements on our path to our 2030 goal.

By 2030
Net Zero

We will be net zero by 2030. Along with that goal, we have a validated science-based target consistent with the Paris Accord's goal of limiting warming to 1.5C by 2030

Our Industry-leading Science-based Carbon Target

As part of our independently-validated roadmap to reach a science-based carbon reduction target, in line with the Paris Climate Accord, we're committed to: Reducing absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 50% by 2030 from a 2019 base year.

Reducing scope 3 GHG emissions from upstream transportation and distribution 82% per rider km over the same timeframe.

Ensuring 80% of our supply chain by emissions--covering purchased goods and services and capital goods--will set their own science-based targets by 2026.
