LimeBike Announces Plans For Dockless Bike Sharing Launch in Scottsdale
The Grand Canyon State is getting its first dockless bike share.
After months of discussions with city leaders in Scottsdale, LimeBike, the US leader in dockless bike sharing, has announced it will be launching a program in the city to help improve its first and last-mile transportation. The move positions Scottsdale at the forefront of the bicycle mobility revolution, and further solidifies its reputation as Arizona’s budding technology hub.
“We’re thrilled to be the first city in Arizona to offer this exciting new transportation alternative to our citizens,” says Mark Hiegel, President and CEO of the Scottsdale Chamber of Commerce. “Not only will LimeBike serve to enhance mobility throughout Scottsdale, but the very nature of their dockless cycling enterprise means that our city’s pristine natural surroundings will stay healthy and protected as well.”
The first batch of LimeBike’s comfortable, 3G-enabled bicycles will begin rolling into bike racks and designated parking areas by mid-November. Bikes will be deployed and re-located strategically throughout the city to help ensure that all riders have equitable access to them, whether they’re commuting to work at ASU SkySong or out for a leisurely ride around Old Town.
This ease of use also has economic advantages, as Rachel Sacco, President & CEO of Experience Scottsdale points out:
"Bike-share programs have become increasingly popular in cities around the world, including in cities that Scottsdale regularly competes with for leisure travelers and group business. By bringing bike-share to Scottsdale, LimeBike will enhance the visitor experience as it offers a low-cost solution for visitors looking to move throughout the city and explore our downtown districts."
Thanks to LimeBike’s smart mobility philosophy, local ops team members will be working in lockstep with city and DOT officials to help improve infrastructure design and respond to community feedback.
“Every city is different, and we’re committed to working together to explore and solve the unique transportation challenges that they face,” says Anthony Trinh, market launcher at LimeBike. “Our goal in Scottsdale is to create a dockless bike sharing system that’s tailor made for the riders here, based on their input and cycling habits.”
LimeBike will be making its inaugural ride into Arizona on the heels of its $50M Series B fundraise announced last month and recent launches in both Los Angeles and Charlotte. To see if our dockless bike sharing expertise could be put to good use in your city, send us an email at [email protected].
