Lime Announces First Source Program Hires and Community Partnerships For Local Hiring in SF

Today, we announced detailed plans to build on our success hiring and promoting local talent by working with community partners to host job fairs and create a lasting jobs pipeline in San Francisco. We also highlighted two hires made through San Francisco’s First Source Hiring Program Roadmap to Economic Recovery, making us the first scooter share operator and one of the first tech companies based in San Francisco to have successfully hired through the First Source program. Through community partnerships with Goodwill, Episcopal Community Services, Young Community Developers, Toolworks, and The Transgender District, among others, we’ll continue hiring local and offering opportunities for advancement to San Francisco residents.

We take pride in calling San Francisco home and have worked since our founding to ensure all local residents benefit from its presence, especially through workforce development programs. These efforts include:

  1. Partnering with First Source Hiring through the Office of Economic and Workforce Development, recently hiring two team members, a Mechanic and an Operations Specialist. This made Lime the first shared scooter operator to hire through First Source.
  2. Ensuring all of our San Francisco Operations Team members are direct W-2 employees of Lime, receiving the same benefits as our executive team, and experiencing the same career development opportunities as all of our exempt Lime employees.
  3. Each member of Lime’s operations team in San Francisco has an established career ladder and opportunity to grow and develop in their role. In each of our four California markets, including San Francisco, the management team is composed of former entry level hourly hires. For example, Bayview resident Mohamed Lakdawala began as an Operations Specialist and was promoted to Operations Coordinator, the third most senior role in our San Francisco operations.
  4. Nandi Johnson, a San Francisco native, Bayview resident, and local artist, joined Lime in July 2020 and was promoted to Operations Lead in August of 2020. Nandi has taken the initiative to be trained in both our field and in-warehouse operations. She is on a path to further promotion and expansion of her scope of responsibilities at Lime.

In the coming months, we plans to expand on these efforts by:

  1. Hiring up to 20 Operations Teams employees, all of whom will be San Francisco residents
  2. Hiring an additional community engagement team member to support our expanded in-person programming and community partnerships
  3. Participating in and hosting job fairs and informational sessions with local partners using our Employer Spotlight platform to promote these events and crowdsource the highest priorities of the job centers, including centers like Young Community Developers and Episcopal Community Services (ECS).
  4. In partnership with Goodwill, developing a joint coaching program for our Operations Team to improve professional development skills including leadership development, operations planning, and business fundamentals.
  5. Through our partnership with Goodwill (facilitated by the City’s First Source Hiring program), continue working with job centers like ECS who work directly with job seeking clients requiring stable housing in addition to employment.
  6. Coordinating directly with ECS to accommodate candidates in the interview and hiring process. Upon hire at Lime, candidates are placed in stable housing and ECS works with the landlord to coordinate their leasing arrangements.
  7. Working with ECS to create a candidate pipeline for hiring in Q2 of this year.
