*cue ominous laughter*

Before you finalize your holiday plans, take a look at some of the spookiest rides your LimeBike can take you on this Halloween weekend. Are you and your friends brave enough to check any of these hair-raising destinations off of the list?

KELLS IRISH PUB - SEATTLE, WA

Kells Irish Pub.jpgBefore it was transformed into the vibrant, friendly bar Seattleites know today, the Butterworth Building in downtown’s Pike Place Market served a more macabre purpose. As an early 20th-century mortuary, the structure quite literally housed the dead - whether from sickness, mining accidents, or more nefarious causes.

To this day, employees and patrons still claim to experience bizarre events from time to time. Glasses have slidden from the bar to the floor of their own volition. Mirrors have mysteriously shattered. Spirits have reportedly been seen. Come in for a few pints of Guinness and you may not be able to tell if that blurry figure in the corner is just your imagination or…

THE OCTAGON HOUSE - WASHINGTON D.C.

Octagon House.jpgThe Octagon House/Museum has been a staple of DC’s Foggy Bottom neighborhood ever since it was constructed at the turn of the 19th century. It’s arguably the most haunted structure in our nation’s capital, although the strangest part of the building may very well be the fact that it somehow retained the name “The Octagon House” while in fact only having six sides. But we digress.

While no tragic deaths actually took place inside Colonel John Tayloe III’s home, it is nevertheless said to be visited by two of his fifteen children and the ghost of former first lady Dolley Madison. Everyone from curators to employees have described eerie goings-on over the past 100 years, from bells tolling mysteriously to the sound of a disembodied woman’s screams. Creepy.

FLAG POLE HILL - DALLAS, TX

Flag Pole Hill.jpgLocals will tell you that there are spirits haunting Flag Pole Hill just north of White Rock Lake in Dallas, Texas. At night, the narrow, horseshoe-shaped road leading to the park has been the scene of numerous paranormal events, with rocks and sticks having reportedly been thrown at cars from an otherwise empty hillside.

The cause of the haunting is disputed, with some attributing it to a past massacre of Native Americans and others claiming it’s the result of murder-suicides at nearby White Rock Lake and Blackbird Lane. Whatever the case, those automatic headlights on your LimeBike are definitely going to come in handy.

THE MORDECAI HOUSE - RALEIGH, NC

Mordecai House.jpgWhen one of your city’s most historic buildings has been featured on an episode of Ghost Hunters, you know there’s some paranormal activity afoot. Welcome to the Mordecai House, a relic of 18th-century North Carolina. While the grounds are home to the birthplace of former president Andrew Johnson, its most popular resident is said to still reside within the walls of the Mordecai House itself.

For centuries, stories have been passed down of a woman’s spirit haunting the premises. She has been heard playing the piano, and even today visitors to the now-museum can sometimes still spot a dark mist hovering in the parlor. Enter at your own risk.

TIPPECANOE PLACE - SOUTH BEND, IN

Tippecanoe Place.jpg

The grand Tippecanoe Place restaurant in South Bend is counted among the most haunted destinations in the American Midwest. Built in 1889, it was once the home of Clement Studebaker, co-founder of what would eventually become the Studebaker Automobile Corporation.

While its ghostly activity is sometimes misattributed to Mr. Studebaker’s suicide (he actually died of natural causes in 1901), the most frequent sightings are of a mysterious woman in white and a maid named Beatrice who is often spotted in the upper levels of the mansion. Since the opening of the restaurant in the early 1980’s, multiple sightings have been reported from employees and guests alike, as recently as 2016.
