Lime in Düsseldorf

E-scooters have only been around in Düsseldorf for a few years. But that's no excuse for not knowing the traffic rules. You can find the most important rules here and in your Lime app. Please follow these rules to be safe on the road and to protect your wallet from fines. #ridegreen #ridesafe

Here's how to park correctly

Help us keep the streets of Düsseldorf safe and accessible for all.

Mandatory parking spaces 🅿️

In more and more districts, the city is setting up parking spaces for shared vehicles. In these cases, parking for e-scooters and e-bikes from Lime is only permitted at the designated “SharingStationen” and “MobilitätStationen”.

Look for the blue zone in your Lime app before you start your journey. Within these zones, you can only end your trip in the parking spaces marked by 🅿️. The SharingStationen and MobilitätStationen are marked on the ground and have a sign. Please only park your Lime vehicle there.

You can find more information about the city’s parking spaces here: MobilitätStationen and SharingStationen

How to park your Lime vehicle correctly

Always park in the designated parking spaces when you are in a blue zone on your Lime app.

Outside of these zones you can park on the sidewalk as long as you follow the parking rules:

  • Park your Lime vehicle parallel to the road at the edge of the sidewalk

  • Leave at least 2 meters on the sidewalk clear

  • Do not park against the wall of the buildings, as it serves as orientation for visually impaired people

Additional rules for parking on the sidewalk

  • ❌ Don’t park closer than 15 m to public transit stops

  • ❌ Don’t park near intersections and pedestrian crossings

  • ❌ Don’t block ground guidance systems for visually impaired persons

  • ❌ Don’t block bike lanes

  • ❌ Don’t block emergency access roads and access driveway crossings

  • ❌ Don’t block entrances and exits

  • ❌ Don’t block access to mailboxes, parking metres, charging stations, seating and toilet facilities

  • ❌ Don’t park on the roadside greenery

  • ❌ Don’t park on the sidewalks that are too narrow – choose another parking spot instead

Pay attention to the red no parking zones

The red coloured zones in your Lime app are no parking zones. You will not be able to complete your ride here. It's best to check the app just before you rent to see if your destination is in a no-parking zone and plan your ride accordingly.

Don’t leave your Lime vehicle in the no parking zones, marked red in the app to avoid receiving a fine.

Make sure you ace the end-trip photo 📸

You have to take a photo of the parked vehicle to end your ride. We review all photos to check whether you parked your Lime vehicle in line with the rules.

FAQ

    • 18+: You must be of legal age to use Lime. You can find our full Terms of Use here.

    • One person per scooter: Always ride your scooter alone. Multiple people per scooter are not allowed. Anyone who is traveling in pairs on just one scooter not only risks a fine, but also endangers themselves and other road users.

    • Group ride instead of tandem: If you want to ride with several people, use “group ride” in your Lime app. This allows you to activate up to five scooters with your account.

    • Heroes wear helmets: There is no obligation to wear helmets. Nevertheless, we recommend that you wear a helmet whenever possible.

    • Ride where bikes ride: Always use cycle lanes. If cycle lanes are not available, please ride on the road.

    • This is a no go and will be expensive: driving on sidewalks, in pedestrian zones and in parks is prohibited and will be punished with a fine of up to 100 euros.

    • Sometimes faster, sometimes slower: The maximum speed of e-scooters in Germany is 20 km/h. Please always adapt your speed to the current traffic situation. Always stick to walking speed on play streets and other traffic-calmed areas.

    • Nice in a row: When you're out with your friends, remember that you always have to ride in a row. Otherwise, with a fine of at least 15 euros, it can quickly become expensive.

    • Pay attention to dedicated parking spaces: Whenever you are in a blue zone in your Lime app, you must end your trip in one of the designated parking spaces. You can find the parking spaces in the Lime app. In most cases, the parking areas are also marked by signs and floor markings.

    • It’s all about respect: When you park your Lime vehicle, you must not hinder anyone or block paths. Park at the side of the road or on sidewalks in such a way that other road users are not restricted or endangered.

    • Accessibility is a must: Pay particular attention to vulnerable road users. Never park in such a way that, for example, a stroller or wheelchair can no longer be used on the sidewalk. Also take a good look at the surface you are parking on. Are there indicators that are used to help visually impaired people find their way? If this is the case, please find another suitable parking space for your Lime vehicle.

    • Note the no-parking zones: The zones coloured red in your Lime app are no-parking zones. You cannot end your journey here. It is best to check the app shortly before the rental process to see whether your destination is in a no-parking zone and plan your journey accordingly.
