In 2018, St. Louis boasted the least traffic congestion among the top 20 biggest metro areas in the US.

This year, Missouri’s cultural hub of food, music and chess (interestingly enough) has another reason to celebrate its streets: according to a recent survey, more than 38% of St. Louis Lime riders are opting to take electric scooters instead of cars.

The survey, which had a sample size of 451 respondents, was conducted in March by Lime’s policy research team.

“These are very encouraging results that reflect mode shift trends we’re seeing across the globe,” said Calvin Thigpen, Policy Research Manager at Lime. “From this shift, we estimate that St. Louis Lime riders avoided about 240,000 miles of car travel.”

And all those miles add up to a lot of good.

By choosing Lime over cars, St. Louis Lime riders have helped to prevent an estimated 96 metric tons of carbon emissions from entering the atmosphere.

Such rider surveys continue to demonstrate the tangible ways in which micromobility is reshaping urban landscapes and transportation habits. Earlier this month, an Odoxa study in Paris revealed that nearly ¼ million city residents were using electric scooters on a regular basis.
