Lime is encouraging electric scooter riders to give back to their communities this Thanksgiving season by matching all donations made through the Lime Hero program.

Beginning on Thursday, November 28, the company will double all rider donations made to participating nonprofit organizations across the US. The initiative will continue through Giving Tuesday on December 3.

“Community involvement is a critical part of Lime’s ethos,” said Ryan Gallentine, director of mobilization at Lime. “Our mission to improve urban living starts with access to sustainable mobility, but through our Lime Hero program and the generosity of our riders it’s able to extend to many more important facets of city life.”

Any scooter or bike rider can participate in the initiative by simply tapping the menu icon in the upper left corner of the Lime app and then selecting Lime Hero.

Last year, Lime became the first micromobility operator to offer an opt-in donation module allowing riders to round up the cost of each trip and donate the spare change to a community organization of their choice. Since then, dozens of local nonprofits have been added to the growing list of charitable recipients including Cascade Bicycle Club in Seattle, Washington.

“Our partnership with Lime has been a tremendous success,” said Richard Smith, executive director of Cascade Bicycle Club, in May. “As we continue to work with Lime to build a safer city and region, we hope more companies will come forward to collaborate to make our streets the safest and greenest in the country.”

Lime’s Thanksgiving donation match announcement comes just two weeks after Lime Access, another community-focused program, made its European debut in Paris. The program offers steep discounts to eligible scooter riders and, in the US, features cash payment and text-to-unlock options.

Lime's match for Thanksgiving matching promo begins at 12:01 AM Pacific Time on Thursday, November 28, 2019 and ends at 8:59 PM Pacific Time on Tuesday, December 3, 2019.

Donations are matched on a first-come, first-served basis until a maximum of $10,000 USD in eligible donations are made across all charities participating in Thanksgiving matching promo.

How to donate:

• Sign up for Lime Hero if you already haven’t. Details on Lime Hero and how to sign up here.
• Take a Lime ride during the promo period.
• If the charity for your area is participating in Thanksgiving matching promo, we’ll match your donation.
