Lime’s Global Safe Scooter Initiative Sees Record Turnouts In France, Singapore

Lime’s Respect The Ride safe scooter initiative has sparked remarkable rider interest since first launching in the US in November of 2018.
In its first week alone, riders were signing the campaign’s safe-riding pledge an average of once every 5.7 seconds. SmartCitiesDive called the program “a welcomed initiative,” noting its role in Lime’s $3M commitment to scooter safety.
Since then, Respect The Ride events have launched in cities around the world, most recently in Singapore and Lyon, France.
RESPECT THE RIDE LYON
Respect The Ride Lyon took place earlier this month in the city’s famed Place de la République.
Over 1,500 Lyonnais bike and scooter riders, along with city officials, showed up throughout the day to sign Lime’s 5-point safe riding pledge, receive a free helmet customized by two local artists, participate in a free safety course led by a professional and much more. It was the largest safe-scooting event hosted in the city to-date.
“This event is an opportunity for us to both educate new riders and say thank you to the entire Lyon community,” said General Manager Antoine Bluy. “Nearly 1 in 3 city residents has already tried Lime, helping to further reduce our reliance on cars in the city that gave birth to modern bike sharing.”
During the event, Lime also announced the release of other new features designed to help integrate electric scooters even more seamlessly into Lyonnais living. These include:
- The inability to lock scooters along river banks
- Automatically reduced speed limits on busy pedestrian streets
RESPECT THE RIDE SINGAPORE
Co-sponsored by Asian Detours, Lime’s Respect The Ride Singapore event was the first of its kind in the Lion City.
Attendees received free helmets and had the opportunity to participate in hands-on scooter demonstrations along an enclosed test track in the Fusionopolis Research and Development Complex.
“Singapore is one of the world’s cleanest and safest cities, and Lime is committed reflecting those qualities in every aspect of our operations,” said Anthony Fleo, Lime’s Regional General Manager. “Our Respect The Ride Singapore event is the first in an ongoing series of safe riding initiatives planned for Lion City.”
